F-Parametrization: Relationship PROFIsafe and PROFIdrive

Post

Question from the PROFIsafe Designer Workshop in October 2023:

Is there a similar feature for F-parameterization via PROFIdrive, which have their own way of parameterization, as for non-PROFIdrive devices, which will then use iPar? It this PROFIdrive on PROFIsafe?

For parametrization of PROFIdrive devices normally the acyclic data channel in a PROFIdrive device is used for e.g. parameterization by using the so called Parameter Access Point of a PROFIdrive device. I just wonder if there exist a similar mechanism for transferring F-parameters to a PROFIdrive device for F-parameters as it will do for non-PROFIdrive devices, which can do the job by transferring the F-parameters via iPar. There exist something called PROFIsafe on PROFIdrive (or vise versa). Is F-parameters covered by this addendum for PROFIdrive?

Answer:

No, the PROFIdrive on PROFIsafe amendment doesn’t cover how to transfer F-Parameters to a drive device. This is basically because the topic of parameterization of a drive is always done in a vendor-specific way (vendor drive setup tool) and in this context also the drive-based safety function parameterization is done by this vendor-specific drive setup tool.

Therefore there was no need for a specific standardized service for the transfer of F-Parameters to a drive device. At least F-parameters show up as standard Profidrive parameters and can be read from the drive device via the BMP parameter channel, of cause this is not safe and not relevant within a safety application.
