PROFIenergy: Planning steps / guidelines?
PROFIenergy: Planning steps / guidelines?
We are thinking about implementing energy-saving automation. In which steps should it make sense to proceed with PROFIenergy? Is there a guide?

Dear Tom M.
The implementation of possible energy savings within your production line can be done very easy and I would propose the following steps:
1. Analyse Energy Consumers (maybe you have done it already)
• Identify all relevant energy-consuming devices (e.g., drives, robots, controllers)
• Check whether these devices support PROFIenergy
2. Define Energy Saving Strategies
• Determine when and how energy should be saved (e.g., during breaks, weekends, downtimes)
• Differentiate between planned and unplanned pauses
The integration can be done just in three steps:
3. Integrate into the Control System
• Implement PROFIenergy commands in the PLC
• Helpful support you will find with useful templates of your engineering system , e.g. application examples
Example: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs ... 109768643
4. Configure Devices
• If needed, configure end devices to respond to PROFIenergy commands (e.g. activate PROFIenery on your robot)
5. Test and Optimize
• Simulate various pause scenarios and observe device behaviour
Additional details (kind of guid) you will find at: https://www.profinet.com/profinet-explained/profienergy
Additional helpful Notes
• PROFIenergy uses standardized telegrams over PROFINET – no additional hardware is required
• Integration can also be done via OPC UA (Part 30141) to bridge IT and OT layers
• PROFIenergy is especially effective in industries with frequent production pauses, such as automotive manufacturing
