Can anyone draw any conclusions about the origin of the GSDX file? The question relates to trademarks. Trademark partners may not want their GSDX file to be associated with the original manufacturer.

Yes, but users can already draw conclusions about the original manufacturer from the VendorID in the GSDML file. GSDX files must be signed with a certificate/key pair issued to this VendorID. A concept is currently being evaluated for the I-Device use case.
