What sets apart ASIC and FPGA Profinet solutions from each other ?

In contrast to the ASIC, the FPGA is more flexible because
- its function can be changed by the developer
- own functionalities can be incorporated in addition to the PROFINET function

The disadvantage of FPGAs is their higher costs especially if the increased flexibility is not needed.
